The Mystic Krewe of Caritas was founded in 2008 by Michael Acton, Rebecca Haack, and Robert Wade as a service organization to raise money for AIDS Alabama. During this time, the Ryan White governmental matching of funding from the state was pulled, causing concern to all AIDS outreach facilities.
Today, MKC votes yearly on which organization receives the bal ticket proceeds. Our last bal masque raised $20,000 for the Magic City Acceptance Center.
As the Krewe has grown in size, so has its heart. Aside from raising money for AIDS Alabama, members have collected eyeglasses for OneSight, a global organization, and participated in events and fundraisers for Birmingham AIDS Outreach.
Through both leadership and stewardship the Mystic Krewe of Caritas supports LGBTQIA+ organizations gather financial and material resources needed to provide education and general support to the communities in which they operate.
The Mystic Krewe of Caritas was founded to provide LGBTQIA+ organizations support through fundraising and wish-list drives. Its main community fundraiser, a Mardi Gras Bal Masque, is the primary fundraiser for financial donations from the community.
